Canonical today announced that it has signed a collaborative engineering agreement with Dell to support Ubuntu 12.04 LTS across the full range of Dell’s latest 12th generation PowerEdge Servers for Ubuntu Advantage customers. Over 45 Dell PowerEdge Servers have been certified by Canonical for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

Customers who buy the Ubuntu Advantage support offering will get the benefit of full collaborative support covering software and hardware from Canonical and Dell. The engineering agreement cements the commitment of both companies to offer assurance to the growing number of Ubuntu Advantage enterprise customers running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on Dell PowerEdge Servers.

“Ubuntu is one of the leading enterprise-class Linux distributions and demand for the OS is growing among hyperscale customers,” said Forrest Norrod, vice president and general manager, Dell Server Solutions. “The Canonical certification and support of Ubuntu on our Dell PowerEdge servers is consistent with our innovation for customers running scale-out workloads.”

Mark Murphy, VP, Global Alliances at Canonical added, “Dell is a world class supplier of enterprise solutions, its support of Ubuntu on its latest 12th generation PowerEdge Servers shows its strong commitment to growing demand for Ubuntu on PowerEdge servers from enterprises.”

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS provides a flexible, scalable and secure way for enterprises to run everything from scale-out workloads to distributed cloud environments. Combined with Dell PowerEdge servers, it delivers performance and reliability in the data centre, with a low energy footprint.

Ubuntu Advantage includes enterprise-grade systems management tools, support, and legal assurance to make it easy to deploy and manage servers running on Ubuntu. Customers can purchase Ubuntu Advantage directly from either Dell or Canonical.
